Giftedness assessment

Giftedness is defined as "exceptional potential and/or performance across a wide range of abilities in one or more of the following areas: general intellectual ability, specific academic, creative thinking, social, musical, artistic and kinaesthetic".

Giftedness occurs within 2% of the population.

This assessment looks at an individual's cognitive ability and achievement level.

It is possible for a gifted individual to also have a learning disorder, often manifested by frustration and behavioral issues in school. This type of assessment will reveal if this is an issue.

Westmount school assessment

For parents seeking testing to meet the application specifications to Westmount Charter School, only a test of intellectual functioning is required as part of the application process.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation provides a learning profile specific to the individual and may result in diagnoses such as learning disorder, intellectual disorder, ADHD/ADD.

For individuals who are below grade level in one or more academic areas (reading, writing, math) or requiring a significant amount of support to attain/sustain grade-level expectations, struggle to keep up to the pace of learning, experience memory difficulties, struggles with focus and concentration, issues with initiating tasks, organization and so on.

If the assessment results in a diagnosis, the report can be provided to the school so an Individual Program Plan (IPP) can be developed, focusing on the individual's conditions for success to minimize the barriers to learning success.

Cost: $2,500
PDD/AISH

People with intellectual disabilities applying to AISH (Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped) or PDD (Persons with Developmental Disabilities) are required to provide a recent psychological assessment as part of their application. This assessment is diagnostic and is focused on the evaluation of intellectual capacity (IQ level) and adaptive skills functioning. The end result of the assessment is a formal report documenting a comprehensive intellectual and adaptive skill profile and applicable diagnostic information.

AISH is a program that provides financial assistance to adults who have disabilities that substantially limit their ability to work. PDD funds services and programs that support adult Albertans with developmental disabilities to live as independently as possible in the community.

Cost: $2,750

ADHD/ADD

This assessment looks at the criteria for meeting the diagnostic criteria for ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) or ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).

We all have moments of struggling with attention, being easily distracted, poor concentration. These domains are impacted by numerous factors (physical/mental health, sleep issues, anxiety, depression, stress, and so on). However, if these issues significantly impact your daily functioning in different areas in your life, you may have ADHD/ADD and benefit from targeted intervention and strategies to address the impact they have on your school and/or work life.

Please note this is for a typical 10-hour assessment. If more testing is suggested, in consultation with you, the cost may increase up to $2,750.

Please note this is without cognitive or academic assessment.

Please note most work benefits and extended health plans cover portions of the costs for psychological services.
